However, there are far more powerful and/or rechargeable batteries that we may choose to use for obvious reasons but they come with much more risks. More if you do not use them correctly.Today, we’re talking about lithium-ion 18650s. Again, do not take what I say word for word because I’m no expert. If any of this is new to you, I hope it serves as a good starting point for you to do your own research. From now on, when I say 18650, the type of battery that is compatible with this flashlight along with AAA batteries with adapter, I’m talking about lithium-ion.The reason I did research even though I use much more dangerous devices with multiple 18650s for vaping is because I did not want to assume my batteries would work the same in another type of device. And guess what? I was correct. Now while I might be wrong, better to be safe than sorry, and without a manual with this flashlight, I assume it is unregulated. When I say unregulated, I mean that the flashlight will continue to work until your 18650 is completely dead. You never want to let your 18650 get to 0%. While I’m not an expert with all lithium-ion chemistries, I know for sure 18650s, recharging them each time it reaches a certain threshold gets increasingly more dangerous. I believe it’s about 20-30%, but to be safe, I’d charge them half way each time meaning you must have a device, most likely a charger, that can give you the reading you need to know what capacity is left on your battery. When 18650s get too low, the chemistry can get altered physically which can lead to an explosion. With my vape mods, I use regulated devices. They do not let the batteries get to 0% although the screen will read 0% before I reach dangerous discharged levels. These flashlights as far as I know do not stop you from reaching dangerous discharged levels nor do I see hints it has any indicators of any kind.While this makes using 18650s seem inconvenient, I discovered after buying this device that there are “protected” 18650 batteries you can buy that prevent you from discharging to dangerous levels. By default, if you choose to use an 18650, you need to buy a reliable protected 18650. It’s simply more convenient and safer if you do not plan to regularly monitor your battery. However, there are limited choices for protected 18650 batteries than there are unprotected. While it’s hard to say, because unprotected 18650s have been around longer and have much more variety and many more uses, they are much more proven. Companies simply spent more money making sure they put out the best unprotected 18650s because there is a big market for them. Again, do your research and use multiple sources for reviews, but top brands are usually big TV makers such as Samsung, Sony, LG. Through my brief research, seems like Panasonic makes one if not the best protected 18650. I’ve also seen Panasonic and Sanyo seem to make good unprotected 18650s too but I don’t see a reason to buy these brands since the prices for Samsung, Sony, and LG are competitively priced.In the case my 18650 reaches true 0%, I also use a charger that can detect it and refuse to recharge the battery. I also have one that doesn’t have that capability and will charge it as many times as I can. If you can’t decide which way to go, three AAA alkalines are your best bet. You want the convenience of using a single 18650 that you can recharge and you are willing to do the research and the work to maintain them safely, use a highly rated unprotected 18650. Don’t want to do the work but still want the convenience of a rechargeable 18650? Protected 18650 is your best bet. Alternatively, three AAA rechargeables may work for you. Also, if you use an 18650, storing and/or not using your device for long periods of time, the batteries ideally should be charged at about 70%. Leaving them at 100% will shorted the lifespan. Basically, you won’t be able to recharge them as much before you have to buy new ones. Unsure if it increases odds for battery exploding though.

Talk About Bright! I Could Use this thing to find a Creator on the Dark Side of the Moon from my front porch! My son complained when I gave him a regular little Led flashlight to check some pipe fittings under my sink! He said the beam was too narrow & dim! With the Zoom Function, that should take care of that! It has a nice size to it and I especially like dual Battery functionality, either rechargeable (one AA) or regular batteries (three AAA’s, adaptor included). It came as a Two Pack & I’m thinking about ordering another Two Pack!! I got them for use in dark unlit spots like cupboards & closets and in the back yard after dark to keep from stepping in fresh Dog Pooh!!!. For the price-point these are good for keeping on hand. They are small enough for a glovebox or purse and certainly deliver bright light. If you don’t have 18650 batteries, I would recommend picking up a pair of those and charger. There is an internal sleeve that is made for that type of battery. Dealing with 3 AAA batteries instead of one larger battery is silly. The only issue I have is a halo around the main beam on both flashlights. It becomes more pronounced as you tighten the beam. Also, I would have prefered a belt clip but wasn’t expecting that based on the description. If the are half as durable as my Ultrafire I used heavily for 5 years, I’ll be impressed and update my review. I would guess the lumen power to be around 1600 based on the brightness I see and on another “As seen on TV” brand that looks identical to these. Definitely more than 1000. So far, for $5 per flashlight, I would recommend these to anyone. The shipping was lightening fast as expected and packed well..
