But with the 2 AA batteries you will get longer run time if that is important to you. It has five modes counting the strobe, I would prefer no strobe as I just never use that function but some might. Has a tail clicky for off and on with side switch for modes witch is nice. Its 500 lumens so not real bright but for certain task is good enough and will help on saving battery power. I will be carrying this light in my car glove box in case I need it. All and all a decent light from Thrunite.. This flashlight is very bright for just 2 AAA batteries and has 2 buttons, 1 button for on/off and 1 button for 4 different light levels plus strobe. My 1 button flashlights always take multiple presses to get the light level I want, which is usually the brightest setting, and often cycle through strobe functions which I never use. Strobe function on the ThruNite Direct flashlight is only accessed through a long press on the function button which requires deliberate action and does not happen by accident so it is easy for me to avoid. My only complaint, hence 4 instead of 5 stars, is that the on off button is recessed enough to make it difficult for me to turn the flashlight on and off with my thumb when holding the flashlight in a fist grip. Otherwise this is an excellent flashlight for its size.. This flashlight was highly rated on Wirecutter, so I ordered it without paying much attention to the dimensions. It is skinny.
