Bought one as a gift for a friend. He used it infrequently for a few months and then told me it no longer worked. I checked the light out, charged the battery, and even substituted a fresh charged battery. Light would flash a few times, and then quit. Contacted Nightfox and they sent a replacement. The replacement was DOA. Nightfox will not answer my emails at this point. My advice: Spend a little more money and get a proven brand of light. I have had both Nitecore and Fenix flashlights for years and never had a problem with them.. Great light. 4 stars because there is always room for improvement. But cost vs benefit is definitely there. Under $37 shipped, onboard recharging, over 1000 lumens, moonlight, water resistant with an 18650 included, and very good build quality, yes please. It’s a good all around work light in my opinion because it’s a good wash between spot and flood, stays relatively cool and charges quickly using the onboard micro usb charging feature. Gold plated springs on both ends inside. Very smooth threads come pre-lubed with substantial o-rings. You won’t be disappointed. I got one, showed it off at work and a guy gave me money for 2 more. It has a solid feel to it, with no sharp edges and no sign of imperfection. The body is mostly covered in a diamond shaped pattern, with the same diamond pattern found on the side of the tail-cap. The flashlight provides a good grip (even when wet) and fits very comfortably in my hand.The tail-cap is removable and features a stout spring on the inside of the cap. On the end of the tail-cap is the tail-switch; covered with a rubber cap. The tail-switch has a good feel to it and provides good feedback when pressed and released. It does have an audible click, but it isn’t loud. There are two U-shaped cutouts (access for your thumb) with one side having two small holes for the lanyard. The flap is secured by Velcro and appears to be made out of nylon. The sides are elastic and the UT20 can be stored top-up or top-down.The clip is stout – very stout. Enough so that it is highly unlikely that it will come off by accident. The spring section is of a similar stoutness – actually a bit too stout for my preference.Recharging the battery is easy: simply plug the micro USB into the input (on the UT20) and plug the other end of the USB cord (included) into a power source. Make sure to press/release the tail-switch to allow charging. The led indicator (center of side-switch) will flash red every 2 seconds if charging. Beyond that and it’s really difficult to tell (for me anyway) how much light is actually hitting the target. I can get eye shine and reflections (road signs) quite a bit beyond 200 yards, but telling what kind of animal (it is) is all but impossible beyond 170 meters or so.There is a definite hot-spot in the center of the beam; from there light spills out to give very good coverage over a wide area. It’s certainly enough spill to easily illuminate the average yard – and quite a bit more.ConclusionI think the UT20 is an excellent choice for those who want a lot of flashlight for a very good price. With everything included in the package, the cost difference between the UT20 and those cheap superstore flashlights becomes moot once you consider the cost-savings that will be realized by the rechargeable battery. The added power, user options, run-times and build quality are significant improvements too. The UT20 certainly gets a big “Thumbs Up” from me.. The Nitefox UT20 is a well made and well finished flashlight. The instructions are clearly written and Nitefox provides a two year warranty. It’s fits well in my medium size hand and the side switch makes your choice of modes really easy. The side switch also tells you when your battery is fully charged, and when the voltage is dropping and time to recharge.It comes with a 18650 battery and since it has a built in usb charger, you have everything you need to run and recharge the light for a long time. I think hits a good price point here for a great product.The UT20 is a tough durable light that can take some accidental knocks or a downpour and will operate as expected.The only thing I would change about the light would be a step between the moon mode of 1 lumen, and the low mode of 60. 12 or 15 lumens would be a useful addition to the lower range. I purchased 2 sets of two different brands (8 flashlights in total) that looked similar and did a few tests. Beam throw was basically the same for all 8 lights in both modes. Both brands had inconsistent/random beam colors (I’m guessing low end, last picked LEDs) from bright to cool white light and compared to the 900lm Anker I love so much, these are not as bright either.The big difference I noticed is the battery quality between the two brands. I left the lights on over night to completely drain them and then charged them back up with my battery charger. This brands “blue” battery that comes with this light seems to hold on average 20% more charge than the “purple” battery that comes with the other flashlight. Also both these light use a older, larger battery that is less common now. Granted standard batteries will fit, but they will “slosh” around inside (but the light stays on).I do like the machining/shaping on the “purple” battery light a little better though, but there is nothing wrong with the “blue” one.Overall these are good, cheap flashlights.
